Park Avenue Apartment
In this renovation, PPA brought the glamour and cosmopolitan spirit of French design into a contemporary family-friendly living space. In the public rooms, PPA linked the library, living room and dining room with a strong central axis and double doors. The kitchen, pantry and staff quarters were combined into a large open kitchen and playroom while the master suite with its adjoining dressing rooms and bathrooms were more fluidly arranged. The architectural finishes give the apartment an Art Deco appeal and emphasize the uncommonly high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling French doors in the living room and library. In the dining room, the lacquered wood paneling, curved walls and pewter-leaf ceiling evoke the atmosphere of a hôtel particulier in Paris but is more contemporary in spirit. Decoration by David Kleinberg, distilled moldings and casings, French hardware, stylized grilles, glazed doors and vaults reinforce the design’s Art Deco-inspired French expression.
