New England House
Located in a storied area developed during the pre-Revolutionary War period, this new house reflects the rich architectural heritage of its city which includes important examples of New England architecture. PPA centered the house and its elliptical porch, embellished with the Tower or Temple of the Winds order, on the curved wall of the existing Fletcher Steele garden. In the spirit of the New England vernacular, the wood facades revel in the subtle variations of texture and linearity. On the interior, David Adler’s powder room at the Reed estate in Lake Forest, IL, inspired the mirrored foyer with poured-glass casings and silver-leaf panels. The floating stair curves up around the foyer entrance lit from above by a laylight and a bull’s-eye window which draws light form an upstairs study.
