Limestone Mansion
PPA was responsible for re-establishing the interior architecture of this six-story, 18,000 square foot house. The formal street façade set the tone of the succession of Beaux-Arts rooms, extensive stonework and ironwork within, whose distilled forms embody the sensuality of New York’s eclectic period at the turn of the 20th century. A limestone entry hall with paired Doric columns leads into a wide rectangular stair rising between the first and fourth floors under a vaulted ceiling and circular laylight; there are two additional bedroom levels above. Throughout, the new interiors decorated by Shaun Jackson capture the exuberance and elegance of the Beaux-Arts style.
