In renovating this 4.000 square foot apartment, PPA channeled English and Moorish influences to create a stylized, glamorous design aesthetic. The gallery, designed with fluted plaster walls inset with beads and floral motifs and a marble patterned floor, connects to the silk-lined dining room and living room scaled to embrace a Sir John Soane-designed mantel. Originally a four-bedroom apartment with several narrow servants’ rooms, PPA reconfigured the space to create a large master suite with a bedroom, sitting room and dressing rooms, expanded the back quarters into media and guest rooms and relocated the kitchen to capture the river view. Michael S. Smith’s luxurious decoration and PPA’s sumptuous palate of materials, including different marbles, gold and silver leaf, embossed leather, and matte gold-plated hardware, reinforce the apartment’s tasteful opulence.
